Maya, that's lovely. I agree with you on those lines. Another one of my favorites is "Who knows where the time goes" by Sandy Denni. I had an old tape of her singing it & just found it again on iTunes.
Just going through your archives tonight and came across this one. I have to tell you this song is one of the reasons my daughter is named Suzanne. And, I think Judy's 7 note repeating guitar part in her version really makes the song come alive. Leonard's forte is writing, and although his voice is very interesting, I usually enjoy other's interpretations of his earlier works. I have a whole album of Jennifer Warnes singing covers of his stuff. I love your photos here. -Kim Seattle Daily Photo
Great song. I keep coming back to Chelsea Hotel No 2 and Hallelujah though. "we are ugly but we have the music..."
ReplyDeleteThey are all great! I've heard so many great renditions of Hallelujah.
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this?! Well, no matter. I've just added it to 2TC.
ReplyDeleteI love the close up in the first picture. As for those lines in the second, AMAZING!
d.c. You didn't. I was late. I have to start getting them in by Saturday instead. I think it's the time difference that is killing me!
ReplyDeleteThe two photos are from the same song (Suzanne). Those lines get me every time!
I'm not familiar with this tune. I probably have heard it, but can't picture it. Seeing that trebble cleff thingy takes me back to J.r high band days.

ReplyDeletedusty: Oh, you MUST! Either the Leonard Cohen or Judy Collins version!
ReplyDeleteTash: That is a good one too! I have that around here somewhere (on album I believe).

Thanks Kim! I just love this song. I'm not sure I've heard a version I didn't like. I do love listening to both Judy and Leonard singing it!
