Madrid IV: Dia de la Hispanidad

We happened to be in Madrid on their National Day in which they celebrate Columbus discovering the Americas as well as Spain's Day of the Armed Forces. For the latter, they have a parade and planes flying overhead.

Another lovely walk on the edges of Ferney which is surrounded by farmland.






Alas, the mountains are washed out, but I like the pink house.

Buffalo!

One of the great things we see on our drive to work every morning are the Buffalo! Unfortunately, it's difficult to take photos of them from the car, so on our winter snow walk, we hoofed it to the buffalo to take their photos (finally!). Apparently a man named Laurent Girardet imported this herd from Canada in the 90's and they've been an attraction ever since.






It was a pretty flimsy fence separating them from us, so I'm glad they decided to stay put!

Starting the day off right!

We see some amazing sunrises on our way to work. This is taken right outside our apartment. You can see Mt. Blanc in the distance.



Often we see the planes coming in for a landing too.



Looking the other direction are the Jura mountains which look great after a snow storm!

Driving to Work

We have a small commute every morning to get to work by car. Scooters and motorcyles pass most of the line of cars. The nice thing is that there is a mixture of small neighborhoods and farmland. We also drive by the end of the airport runway, so sometimes see planes coming in for a landing. We see buffalo too, but I haven't taken any photos of them yet because they are in a tricky place to stop the car.
