This lovely man decided to give us an impromptu tour around the Jewish Quarter. He took us places and told us things a normal tour guide probably wouldn't. He had to ring up a friend to get access to the wall you saw in the last post (and behind him in this photo)!

Memorial

This Memorial to Carl Lutz is located in the Jewish Quarter. Carl was a Swiss diplomat credited with saving thousands of Jews from the Nazis.

Weeping Willow

This sculpture is the Memorial of the Hungarian Jewish Martyrs. It's leaves have inscriptions of the names of the people murdered by the Nazis.

The synagogue was built in the Moorish revival style based on Islamic models from North Africa and medieval Spain.

Dohány Street Synagogue

Looking into the courtyard of the Dohány Street Synagogue. It is the largest synagogue in Europe and one of the largest in the world.
