I read this post by Linda Reeder this morning and it was so beautifully written and photographed that I wanted to share it. I remember when I was house-sitting for my parents and walking down the long drive through the woods to get the mail/newspaper was one of my favorite activities of the day as well!

Colorful Village

The village on Isla Mujeres has many colorful buildings. Here are just a few:

These masks showed up on our doors at the Casa Sirena as Mexico gets ready to celebrate Carnival. It's probably a fun time to be there!

Planting Palms

We watched several palm trees being planted around the island. I think they were trying to fix up the village after the devastation incurred by Hurricane Wilma.

Parking with a View II

I went on a quick trip to Mexico last week to escape the cold and dreary weather of Seattle and soak up some Vitamin D. I went to a little island called Isla Mujeres near Cancun on the Yucatán Peninsula. I was happy not to be in the overly touristy city of Cancun, but instead in this little village on this little island.

A new building has just been completed on the corner of Olive and 8th. It houses the new LEED certified Hyatt Hotel as well as condos. It has blue glass all over it which I love!

Outdoor Art

Ballard has a little park that has these large sculptures. I've always found them interesting, so I finally photographed them all. Apparently, this park is moving away from the original Ballard heritage and some people aren't happy about it.

Happy Valentine's Day

These two displays are at Horseshoe in Ballard. I thought both were fun and interesting. I always loved passing out these candies on Valentine's Day when I was a kid!

Demolition of a Block

Vivace was one of my favorite places to get coffee and was located only a block from me. Now it's moved further down Broadway to make way for the demolition of this block and the next to make way for the new Capitol Hill Light Rail Station. I'm excited to see the light rail come to the Hill, but sad that it won't be complete until 2012!



This decorated wall surrounds another piece of property where the Jack in the Box used to be in the other block that is being demolished. Hey, did you know Jack is a Taurus like me? I'm not sure what to think of that.

There were a few wrecked cars sitting in front of the Firestation the other night along with many raindrops.

First Church of Christ, Scientist

This church on Capitol Hill is being renovated and turned into residential units. It's nice to see an old building being preserved for a change instead of torn down. It seems poor attendance is making it impossible to keep it a church. Apparently they used the space for a scene in a film before starting the renovations. I had a chat with some of the workers pouring concrete. They seemed quite jazzed about the project. Their enthusiasm was infectious. I'd like to see the inside when they are done!
