Mooooooooo

We spent an entire day at Ballenberg walking the whole path. This is a great place that has buildings and animals representing all the areas of Switzerland (mostly historical). We happened to be there during the cow festival, so saw quite a few different kinds of cows.

I understand the purpose but, from the cow's perspective, I think it must be so annoying to have a bell clang at your neck every time you take a step.

When I visited an ancestral village near Appenzell, I was greeted by Brown Swiss cows mooing and tinkling their bells. It was great.

lacochran: I agree. I keep thinking it must drive them crazy!

Linda: I love the sound too!

Schlepping a bell around one's neck is probably where the phrase "pain in the neck" originated. Still, I do love the bells on the cows, goats, and sheep. Makes the whole scene somehow more bucolic or something.
