I bought this little sculpture in Rio at
Legep. I believe it's made out of
soapstone. I thought it met this challenge because a soft woman is being represented through hard stone. Of course, soapstone is also a very soft rock as far as rocks go, so you could also say it's soft though it feels hard.

I think this is perfect for the hard/soft challenge. Soapstone itself is hard and soft so I think you covered all spects. And the sculpture all on its own is beautiful.
I like this choice for this interpretation. When my sister came home from living in Hong Kong, she brought back some beautiful soapstone pieces with her. One of the was a set of carved balls inside of each other. They were exquisite.
Your soapstone from Rio is equally lovely!
pj and dc: Thanks! Almost makes you want to try carving in it, doesn't it?
Very sensual, creative interpretation of our theme. It's so much fun to see artists using other mediums for this.
virginia: I wish I were talented enough to have actually made it!
Wow! this is an excellent, exquisite object, just PERFECT for Hard/Soft challenge.
Clever! Soft soapstone, quite pretty isn't it?
tash and dusty: Thanks! I do indeed think it's pretty which is why I dragged it's extra weight back with me in my suitcase!
I was doing to say what pj said. Perfect encapsulation of hard/soft.
Thanks!
