In my wanderings this afternoon, I saw this building located at 215 Columbia and it's interesting embellishments. It reminds me a bit of some European buildings.
Maya, you've found a real gem in this building's architectural details. These are amazing and seem to be historical references specific to Seattle. The archway motif is repeated with the figures from history, and the rose window motif makes me really wonder what the story might be. Since "Seattle" is carved over the entry way, 215 Columbia must be or have been a city building of some sort. I'm going to have to visit this! Lovely photos you've made of these, -Kim Seattle Daily Photo
PS, I forgot to say thank you for your comment on Coffee & Salmon, and that I hadn't heard of the Friday spiral challenge at all. . . Seems like I'm always out of the loop :-) -Kim Seattle Daily Photo
kim: I was wondering about the history of the building as well. I didn't find much online.

These embelishments add so much depth and character to the buildings.
Wow! What beautiful details. I wish they still built buildings like this.
dusty: I agree. That is why I had to stop and take the shots. It's all in the details!
d.c.: Yes, it would be nice to see some of this work on modern buildings. Though I do like some of the modern buildings too with their reflections!
